New flooring in Cape Coral usually costs $4–$9 per square foot installed for luxury vinyl plank or laminate, $8–$16 for porcelain tile and $8–$16 for engineered hardwood. Removing old tile adds $3–$6 per square foot in most homes. Those are the numbers in Cape Coral, before you choose a product, and every one of them is an estimate.
This page sets out what each floor costs to install here, what the prep costs, what moves a quote up or down in this city, and why two Cape Coral quotes for the same house can be thousands of dollars apart.

Prep: tear-out, leveling and testing
In Cape Coral the floor coming out often costs as much attention as the floor going in. Most homes have tile bonded straight to the slab, so the price of removing it depends on how thick the old thinset is and whether you want the dust contained.
| Prep work | Estimated price | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Tile removal, thinset on slab | $3–$6/sq ft | The most common Cape Coral starting point |
| Tile removal, mud bed or heavy thinset | $5–$12/sq ft | Older homes and some remodels |
| Dust-contained removal (added) | $1–$3/sq ft | Shrouded grinders, HEPA vacuums |
| Carpet and pad removal | $0.50–$1.50/sq ft | Bedrooms in older homes |
| Grinding and self-leveling | $3–$7/sq ft of area | Only where the slab is out of flat |
| Moisture testing | $150–$450 per home | Glue-down plank and wood |
Add-ons, priced separately
We list these on their own lines so nothing is folded into a square-foot price where you can’t see it.
| Add-on | Estimated price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Baseboard or quarter round | $3–$8/linear ft | New trim to cover expansion gaps |
| Stairs with nosing | $60–$150 per step | Open sides and landings cost more |
| Door undercuts and transitions | Included | Part of every install we quote |
| Furniture moving | Quoted per job | Pianos, safes and aquariums excluded |
Whole-house examples
Most people asking about cost have a whole house in mind, so here is what the per-foot numbers add up to on a typical 1,500 square foot single-story Cape home with tile coming out.
| Whole-house example | Estimated total | How it adds up |
|---|---|---|
| LVP through 1,500 sq ft, old tile removed | $10,500–$22,500 | About $7–$15 per sq ft all-in |
| Porcelain tile through 1,500 sq ft, old tile removed | $16,500–$33,000 | About $11–$22 per sq ft all-in |
What moves the price on a Cape Coral home
- What is coming up. Carpet is quick. Tile on thinset is a day or two of grinding. A thick mortar bed can double that.
- How flat the slab is. Long planks and large tiles need a flatter floor, and leveling is priced on the area that needs it.
- Moisture. A slab that reads high may need a mitigation primer or a different adhesive before plank or wood goes down.
- Room shapes. Angled walls, pillars and lots of doorways mean more cuts and more waste than one open rectangle.
- Condo rules. If your association requires a certain sound rating, the underlayment that meets it can cost more than a standard pad.
- Permits. In Cape Coral, many floor replacements need a written exemption request or a permit, especially in the flood zone. If it applies, it appears on the quote.
Cost per square foot versus a fixed price
Square-foot prices are useful for comparing floors. A real quote is built room by room: the measured area plus a waste allowance for cuts, then the prep each room needs, then the trim and transitions, then haul-away. When you compare quotes, compare those lines, not just the headline figure.
Why Cape Coral quotes disagree
We regularly hear from homeowners holding two quotes that are far apart. Usually it comes down to three things:
- One quote includes tear-out and one doesn’t. Or it includes removing tile but not grinding the thinset, which is the slow part.
- One assumes a flat slab. If leveling isn’t on the quote, ask what happens when the installer finds a dip. It often becomes a change order.
- Different products hide in the same name. “LVP” can mean a 6 mil wear layer or a 22 mil one. Ask for the exact product line on paper.
A cheaper quote isn’t wrong, but it should be cheaper for a reason you can see in writing.

Flooring cost questions
How much does it cost to put new flooring in a 1,500 sq ft Cape Coral house?
As a rough guide, luxury vinyl plank through 1,500 sq ft with the old tile removed often lands around $10,500–$22,500, and porcelain tile with removal around $16,500–$33,000. Rooms, stairs, slab condition and the product you pick move it either way; these are estimates.
What is the cheapest flooring to install in Cape Coral?
Laminate and entry-level LVP are the least expensive, both around $4–$9 per sq ft installed. If old tile must come up first, that removal is often a bigger share of the bill than the difference between the two floors.
Why is tile removal so expensive?
Most tile here is bonded to the slab with thinset that has to be ground off, not just the tile itself. It is slow, heavy, dusty work, and the disposal weight is high.
Is moisture testing worth paying for?
For glue-down plank and wood, yes. At about $150–$450 for a home it is a small cost next to a failed adhesive bond. For floating floors over a vapor barrier it matters less, and we’ll say so.
Do you charge for the estimate?
No. The in-home measure, a quick moisture check with a hand meter and the written quote are free, and there is no obligation. Full slab moisture testing for glue-down floors is priced separately, at about $150–$450 for a home.
